Sanctuary of Praise

Greetings from the Pastor's Desk

Thank you for visiting the Pastor's Desk section of our website. This part of the ministry is very important to Pastor Ricky because this is where he will be sharing his heart to the readers and especially those who can't attend services. In this section, Pastor Ricky will share his thoughts about what God the Holy Spirit is saying for the body of Christ and occasionally he will share some of his sermon preparation notes. So if you enjoy this section, please let Pastor know by emailing us here at the Sanctuary of Praise.

                                    “A Pentecostal Mother”

Since Mother's Day and Pentecost Sunday both come in May I thought I would share some thoughts on what it takes to be a pentecostal Mother. The text will be from Paul’s 2nd letter to his spiritual son Timothy which was at this time the Pastor of the Ephesus Church. In Paul’s letter he gives Timothy some words of instruction and encouragement.  2nd Timothy 1:5-6Tells us a little about Timothy. His Grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice both played a vital part in Timothy’s life. According to Paul it was their faith life that gave Timothy the edge he had for the ministry. Not much is said about Timothy’s Father because he was a Greek gentile and probably didn’t have much input into his faith life. I need to insert here that a myth among churches is that unless a strong Father figure is present children don’t have a chance in a ministry, this story proves different so you women whose husband doesn’t attend Church keep the faith because you do make a difference. So what is a Pentecostal Mother? Well first of all she is,

1. A Godly Mother, we have many examples in the Bible of Godly mothers who did everything in their power to make sure their children were taken care of.a. Hagar took her son Ishmael after Sarah ran her out and she guarded him with her live until an angel led them back to Abraham’s camp

b. The mother of Moses put him in a homemade boat so Pharaoh wouldn’t kill him.

c. Hannah gave her son Samuel to the Lord by giving him to Eli the high priest to raise, but every year at sacrifice time she came to see him and brought him a new coat.

d. Of course there is Mary the mother of Jesus who took care of her boy down to the last moment at the cross.

2. A Pentecostal Mother is women who is filled with God the Holy Spirit and allows him to use her. a. All mothers have this unique ability to sense things in their children’s life but a woman who is led by the Holy Spirit daily will know even more.

b. A Pentecostal mother has an advantage of nine supernatural gifts that can be used for children (I Cor. 12: 8-10), who said these gifts were just for a corporate worship.

 c. A Pentecostal mother can give her children more than just church. Instead of just making sure they come to church every now and then their home is a church. There is prayer in the home, there is singing in the home, there is joy in the home, and there is instruction in the home. Let’s get it straight it’s good to bring your children and even have someone else bring them but it is a whole lot better to have them experience church at home. Not the ceremonial stuff but rather a sense of knowing God is in my home also.

D. Last of all a Pentecostal mother knows her children have a destiny. She knows that her kids are a gift from God and are just on loan to her until they are grown. She starts at the very first sight of them to speak destiny and purpose into their lives. She uses all the experiences of their life to make them ready for their destiny, the good and the bad because as a Pentecostal mother she knows “all things will work together for their good because she is raising them up to love God and know his purpose for their life.”

Conclusion: I don’t know if Timothy’s mother knew exactly what he would grow up to be but one thing for sure she knew from her upbringing that God was real and was active in her life and he could be in her son’s also. We hear a lot about family curses and bad habits handed down from generation to generation but I think it’s time we hear about family blessings good habits of our children from generation to generation being passed down.
